Sponsoring IPCC Scholarship Program

Under the strategic cooperation with Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) regarding global climate change and sustainable development, CEFC made a commitment of $1 million per year to the IPCC Scholarship Program for five years, commencing in 2015.

The Scholarship Program aims to support the work of young scientists in developing countries on climate change and strengthen the capacity of developing countries to understand, analyze and act on the critical issues and impacts of climate change. This would enable them to work on critical challenges of climate mitigation and adaptation, related to practical issues such as food production, water conservation, ecological conservation, the reconstruction of and investment in energy systems, etc. It should help developing countries to find local, situation-specific solutions to their own real problems driven by a changing climate.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is an assessment and climate change related scientific intergovernmental body. It was first established in 1988 by two United Nations organizations, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United

Nations Environment Program (UNEP). The aims of the IPCC are to assess scientific information relevant to human-induced climate change, the impacts of human-induced climate change, and options for adaptation and mitigation for decision makers. Its assessment

provides scientific proof to the governments regarding climate related decision making, and serves as the basis of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
